Description

The Minnesota State Seal was adopted in 1858. It features several important aspects of Minnesota's history and culture such as the sun on the western horizon signifying the plains covering much of Minnesota, the stump symbolizing the importance of the lumber industry, the native American on horseback signify for the native American heritage, the cultivated ground is for the importance of agriculture, the Mississippi River and St. Anthony falls symbolize the importance of natural resources in the transportation and industry. The tools of spear and horse of native Americans and the pioneer's rifle, plow and ax symbolize the tools that were used for hunting and labor.
