Description

The Alaska State Seal was originally designed in 1910 when Alaska was still a territory. It features rays above the mountains, a smelter, a train, ships, trees, farmer, horse, three shocks of wheat, fish and seals. The rays of sun represents the Aurora Borealis. The smelter and train stands for mining and the Alaska's rail transportation respectively. The ships and trees signifies marine transportation and Alaska's wealthy forests. The farmer, horse and shocks of wheat symbolizes the state's agriculture. The fish and seals on the outer circle stands for the importance of wildlife and seafood to the economy.
