Description

The Iowa State Seal was created in 1847, a year after Iowa became a U.S state, and is 2 inches in diameter. It features a citizen soldier standing in a wheat field, surrounded by farming and other industrial tools. Behind the soldier is the Mississippi River and an eagle soars above. The eagle is holding a scroll in its beak that bears the state motto, "Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain".
