Description

The Kansas State Flag features the official state seal in the center, a sunflower directly above it, under the sunflower is a bar of gold and light blue. The state seal in the center represents Kansas and Kansas life. The thirty-four stars represents Kansas as the 34th state admitted to the Union. The river and steamboat symbolizes commerce, the rising sun represents the east, and a cabin with a man plowing a field symbolizes agriculture. The sunflower symbolizes the state's offical flower. The bar of gold is a representation of Louisiana Purchase. The state motto, "Ad astra per aspera" which means "To the Stars Through Difficulties".
