Description
The Hawaii State Seal consists of an image of King Kamehameha I holding his staff on the left of the shield and the goddess of liberty on the right side holding the Hawaiian flag.
Below the shield is the image of a phoenix rising from native foliage. The date 1959 signifies Hawaii's statehood. On the bottom of the seal is a quote, "Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono" which means "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness".
