Description

The California State Seal was adopted constitutionally on 1849 and consists of 31 stars which represents the number of states that existed upon the state's admission to the Union in 1850, on top of the word, "Eureka" a Greek word for "I have found it". A grizzly bear nest to a sheaf of grain symbolizes the state's abundant wildlife and agricultural richness specifically its wine production industry, the california grizzly is the official state animal. A miner working with a pick, a pan and a rocker are also seen on the seal near the miner.
