6949th Electronic Security Squadron Patch

6949 ESS was part of the 97th Intelligence Squadron based in Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. After several engagements during World war I, years later the 97th IS was disbanded in 1944 in a major reorganization of the Army Air Forces. In 1979, the 6949th ESS was organized and consolidated with the 97th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron as the 97th Intelligence Squadron.
