Description
The Missouri State Seal was adopted in January 1822 designed by Robert Wells. It consists of a Coat of Arms, a bald eagle grasping olive branches and the arrows of war, a Grizzly bear, and a crescent moon. It also includes two more big grizzly bears holding the motto "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" and 24 stars.
The bald eagle and arrows of war represent the strength and powers of the Federal Government. The grizzly bears stand for citizens' strength and bravery and the crescent moon symbolizes the State at the time of its inclusion in the union.
The big grizzly bears echo the bravery and strength of its citizens.
The 24 stars symbolize Missouri as the 24th state.
