Description
The Colorado state flag was designed by Andrew Carlisle Carson and was adopted in 1911 consists of three equally sized stripes, a large semi-circular "C" and a gold disc in the opening of the letter "C".
The blue and white stripes stand for the skies and peaks of the Rocky Mountain region.
The semi-circular C stans for Colorado, a Spanish word, means red. C stands for centennial when the state was admitted to the Union in the year 1876, the 100th anniversary of American independence. Lastly, it stands for columbine, the state flower of Colorado.
The gold disc symbolizes the all-year-round sunshine of the State. It also signifies the most precious metal gold which is prominent in the State.
