Description
The American Samoa Seal is based on traditional design. It consists of fue or the fly switch and To'oto'o or staff which symbolize wisdom and authority respectively. The Tanoa or kava bowl signifies service to the chief. The tapa-clothed background is a symbol of the Samoan people's artistry. It also features the date April 17, 1900, which is the date it became a US territory, and the word "Samoa Muamua Le Atua" which means "Samoa, Let God Be First".
