Description
The 175th Fighter Squadron (175 AS) is a unit of the South Dakota Air National Guard 114th Fighter Wing located at Joe Foss Field Air National Guard Station, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The 175th is equipped with the F-16C/D Fighting Falcon. Its role is for air defense, nicknamed "Fightin' Lobos" and has been active since 1943. Its first mission during World War II was on February of 1943 as bomber support sweep of short duration over enemy-held territory. In March 1951 it was federalized and brought to active duty for the Korean War.
